As a VT alum and huge college football fan, this was the most difficult event I have ever watched. Michigan certainly did not win - we beat ourselves, over and over again. My heart rate just doubled while typing this post.

I'll go ahead and say, though, that the past 5 bowl games I have watched this season (Washington v Baylor, Georgia v Michigan State, Oregon v Wisconsin, Stanford v Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech v Michigan) all kept me glued to the television for the duration. It's been a great year, despite the heartbreaking loss last night.

That was my thought as well. It almost seemed like VT was trying to lose albeit I think they got hosed on that touchdown at the end.... I thought Coale made that catch but the booth officials disagreed so I digress. By the way, thanks to VT for ripping my heart out in 2009.... I'm a huge Nebraska Cornhuskers fan.

yea Michigan def shouldn't have won we tanked out in the 3 quarter and really should have been up by alot more points.but as a die hard Michigan fan I will take the win

I feel horrible for Coale. He's just a great teammate, hard worker, and that would have been the biggest catch of his career. You could tell he was absolutely devastated when it was reversed. I will miss seeing him him maroon and orange.

That 2009 game was close! Hokies usually fold when playing tough opponents, so I'm surprised they held on for the win.

he def didn't catch that ball.glad they reviewed it.I thought he had it too at first. damn db got burned like toast on that play.

I don't think you can conclude he "definitely" didn't make the catch. It was called a catch on the field, and the only camera angle where the ball appeared to touch the ground also suggested that he made possession and was down in bounds when his elbow touched. Certainly not conclusive evidence warranting a reversal of the original call, as the review rules require.

I'd agree with this. If anything I was rooting for Michigan but I still think Coale made the catch or at the least, that there wasn't enough evidence to overturn the call made on the field.

I thought the angle showed he didn't have it.plus he didn't get up and cheer after the catch which would point out that he knew he didn't catch it

The reason he didn't get up and cheer is because of the emotional overload from making a ridiculous, (likely) game winning, diving catch in the biggest game of his career, the last catch of his VT career, and possibly last catch of his football career. And if the refs upheld Gronkowski's TD catch last night (which clearly touched the ground), I have no idea how they overturned Coale's catch.

UNC always has some serious talent on both sides of the ball in football, but for whatever reason they can't put together a solid season. The sanctions will definitely hurt. Coples will be a top 10 pick this year, just like Quinn was last year.
