what is the Best heavy duty shaker, for liquid meals post/during workouts?
I need something that wouldn't spill, drip, open up in my bag, even after heavy usage and would be easy to wash.
thanks

Go big or go home. This is by far the best shaker bottle you'll ever buy. It comes with a little metal ball thingy that shakes up the drink. The plastic is very very thick, unlike the other ones out there. The threads for screwing on the lid are very wide and thick, ensuring a snug fit every time. The snap-on spout cover is super thick too. When you snap that lid shut it feels like closing a german car door, snug and solid.
This is like Rubbermaid versus Always Save.

There was that one (I think BB sells it) that has the powder compartment so you could for instance show up to the gym with say Vendetta in the shaker ready to drink and have your post shake powder in the compartment for later. I think it had a spiral blue ice type thing on the bottom as well. I kinda liked the concept, dunno if it worked well or not though.
I've got several of the cheap ones from Mike. The problem I have with them is the lids have gaskets that want to fall out so you can almost never get them in right.
I rarely use the lids anyway since I drink 99.9% of my shakes in the kitchen so they shape does work good for mixing up the stuff with a stick blender, they are also handy to have around as extra measuring cups since they're graduated on the side.

With the Blender bottle you don't have to mess with blending any other way. It comes with it's own wire wisk ball. It's ridiculously awesome. It has no gasket either, because it was designed to not need one, that's how frickin awesome this thing is...

Not mentioned, but very inexpensive - powered mixers. I have a powered mixer that holds upto 20-oz servings. The motor, powered by 4 AA batteries, is in the lid, driving a y-shaped shaft that provides very even and thorough mixing of all powders and additives.
I, too, tried various manual shakers that gave uneven mixing results when thick powders are used. I like this one, because I can use disposable plastic or heavy duty paper cups, and easily clean the mixing shaft under running water.
I keep one at my gym and one at home. The version I have now is VitaMinder Personal Power Mixer, retails for $12.99 and can be bought for less on sale, through various national supplement suppliers (VitaminWorld, etc).

The threading on these are much thicker, which negates the need for a rubber seal. I bit the bullet, and it was well worth the 20 bucks. Leaky shakers piss me off to no end.

The description says it made of a "space age material", presumably, nonstick surface type.
It would have to be nonstick to avoid hydrophobic material entrapment and avoid microbial growth.

Though I haven't ever thought about it previously, I've never had whey stuck to the bottom of those shakers where as the standard shakers I have always do. I clean mine with a scrub brush as my 85 yr old house has no dishwasher.

I put some dish detergent and warm water in it and then I shake it. As long as it hasn't sat too long (and dried) it comes right out. Anything that's ever stuck there comes out with a sponge, but I rarely have had to do this.
It's also dishwasher safe. One other thing I like about it is that there's only two pieces. For some reason most of the newer ones include screens, washers and other stuff that you have to worry about.

I know this is going to sound kinda nerdy, but I am so sick of having numerous shaker bottles with seals that are impossible to get in without them twisting and jumping back out, I am going to measure the seal seat and order actual silicone o-rings that are the right size.
I can get em for a buck each (they are the real thing, precision silicone o-rings), but it just seems so stupid to go that far. It's a reasonable alternative though when you don't want to buy any more shakers that leak. Perhaps I'll try the one with the heavy duty plastic and no seal required instead.
As for cleaning, if you put in a spoonful (or two) of Arm & Hammer WASHING SODA detergent booster (not baking soda, this stuff is one of the "power" ingredients in dishwasher detergent, and the box is yellow, not orange), and add hot water to it (stir), it should all come out after about 15 minutes. I use that stuff to clean the nastiest crud off of dishes. 95% of the time it's all I use in the dishwasher and the dishes come out flawless. It won't etch glasses over time either, like the silicates they add to the regular detergents (silicates are a sort of superfine abrasive).

I have an awesome story to go along with this thread. I at one time thought i was being poisoned by the kitchen staff a long while ago when i used to work at a eating establishment. Working there, its automatic that you get your lunch from the chefs for free (if you were popular...lol). But then i started to get ill after every meal. And i mean ILL. I figured it was one of the kitchen guys hating on me. I was sick everyday after my meal for a week. So i stopped eating food prepared by the kitchen....and i still got sick. Turns out my shaker bottle was so damn hard to wash, i had been missing a spot, and being that some protein is milk derived....you guesed it. I was poisoning myself with my own protein.....lol.

I have been using the Under armor bottle for about a year without any leaks or dripping. they are like $10 at Dicks with a small crew lid. My only complaint is the mouth is small so I have to funnel the powders into the bottle with a cut-in-half bottle of water. This does the trick just fine.
