Nizoral shampoo for acne - best solution ever

I've started using Nizoral (actually local brand but same active - 2 % ketoconazole) about 2-3 months ago. I use it 3 times a week on my head and face. I leave it 1-2 min on before washing down. Results are fantastic, I haven't had any kind of acne since then. It actually took about 10 days to clear everything but nothing has appeared since then.

I never actually had bad acne, but last year i had swollen nodules or whatever they're called on my temples. Big red bumps under skin. There was nothing that could be done about it, topical solutions didn't help and it took few weeks to be gone completely, just to come back on other side. Besides that i didn't have much acne, few whiteheads would appear on my face from time to time.
All of this is now completely gone, i have perfectly clear face without any problems.

I got the idea to use Nizoral from M&M article about using nizoral for acne, and I have to say IT WORKS

I'll recommend this to some of my friends for use on back and shoulders. Seems like it would be rough on the face for those with sensitive skin, though.

I thought it may be effective for acne but personally don't have a need for it on my face (my receding hair line needs it however). I'm glad to see you have a response to it D.

PS Nice to see you on the boards again.[/b]

Never went more than 3 days not to visit M&M, but been busy lately so haven't post as much

My skin is not very sensitive, but isn't that hard either, but i haven't notice any changes in my skin, no extra drying etc. As with anything that removes oil from the skin you should use something after shower. I personally use non alcoholic cleaning lotion with salycilic acid which prevents my face skin from drying.

Should you ever get those bumps again or cyst type, go to the doctor and get cortizone injected into them. They will be totally gone within 24 hours. If you have insurance it's probably a 20 buck cost. Under severe stress I'd get 1-2 cystic type, where nothing works, but that. Cortizone is the shit

salycilic astringent really dries up my skin. Is this like a moisturizing lotion?

Works for people because of the ketoconazole, but those of us with even mildly sensitive skin are in a world of trouble putting shampoos and other cleansers with harsh detergents on our faces.

I'd rather suffer than see a doctor <_< But thanks for advice. I did try hydrocortisone cream it didn't help at all, probably injections work better.

Actually it's anti-acne (thought it never helped me) cleaning lotion, not moisturizing per se at all. But I use it all year long after washing my face or shower. Without it my skin becomes dry, but with it - it doesn't. Though when weather is really cold and dry I do need to apply some moisturizing cream after it.

the shampoo is very strong and makes the skin dry, which is not too much of a problem for the forehead (oily T zone nobody? :sheep: )
But not for the rest of the face.

There are creams with ketoconazole.. i didnt know they could work for acne, i find 10% benzyl alcohol the best solution for spot pimples.

Dude I hate doctors more than anyone. I had never seen the doctor I saw this past time. I called up, told them what I wanted and was in and out in 45 min. TRUST ME, it's well worth it.

My acne has been pretty weak since fixing up my diet... But I was still getting a few hits here and there so I figured I would give this a shot... I am now experiencing a breakout...

Where's the cheapest source for Nizoral shampoo in the US? A 7 oz. bottle of 1% concentration is $15 at Walgreens, which is kind of pricey for shampoo? Anyplace online that offers it cheaper (including shipping)?

Nope, 1-2 weeks to completely clear, but i've been using it since then. I stoped for one week recently and those red bumps on my temple appeared again, after restarting Nizoral they're gone again. I guess I'll have to use it for long, but it's ok i don't have any skin problems anymore....and i might stop hair loss too

I heard about this remedy here. I had exactly the same annoying lumpy non-squeezable acnoid features as "da sense" reports, and they are now gone because of Nizoral.

'Sup with this? I'm over 50 and still had skin blemish problems. One doctor prescribed a potent antibacterial cleanser. It failed.

So I examined where the bugs might come from. I disinfected my fingers after bowel movements. I swabbed surfaces with those antiseptic napkins. I used chlorine, H2O2, benzoyl peroxide, propanol dispensed from a hand pump beside the sink, soap and water, replaced my toothbrushes in case oral bacteria were splashing around. These measures decreased my problems by about 30%, but not enough.

Nizoral did it. Can someone explain this?

I agree.

Ketoconazole lowers DHT, and DHT is primary reason for oily skin, clogged pores etc which leads to acne and similar skin problems.

I also tried all kind of cleaning and acne products and realized that problem is not dirt and outside factors but something inside.

Also, ketoconazole is antifungal but i don't think it has any effect as such on skin bacteria.

Very interesting. I'll have to give this a try.

Question ...

Do any of you that utilize this approach have any of the following symptoms that I've found on the web:

changes in hair texture
blisters on scalp
dry skin
itching
oily or dry hair or scalp
irritation, itching, or stinging in the place where you applied the medication
etc

I've tried a lot of shit, and have all worked for a little bit, then failed. Diet helps a lot, but still have some issues.

Thanks in advance

If you don't mind asking, what type of acne did you have? Is it hormonally induced? I'm really trying to figure out my next move. Thanks!
