Prohormones: Phera-Plex

bodybuilder smilingPhera-Plex is an oral steroid that was never introduced to the pharmaceutical market. Phera-Plex is Desoxymethyltestosterone, or DMT for short. It also goes by the name Madol, and may appear under the nomenclatures 17a-Methyl-etioallocholan-2-ene-17b-ol and 17alpha-methyl-5alpha-androst-2-en-17beta-ol. Designer Supplements and Anabolic Xtreme first brought Phera-Plex to the supplement market in 2005. This compound is actually a pheromone with a slighly modified structure, hence the name “Phera-Plex”. Phera-Plex is about 1200% as anabolic as methyltestosterone, and about 190% as androgenic, making it a very potent compound. Phera-Plex is comparable to Ergomax LMG while being less androgenic.

Water retention

Though Phera-Plex cannot convert to estrogen itself, it does have some type of indirect estrogenic activity causing users to experience estrogenic side effects such as water retention under the skin resulting in a bloated look. Because of this, Phera-Plex is typically used for bulking cycles. Like Superdrol, Phera-Plex is an inhibitor of 11-beta hydroxylase, causing water retention within the muscle as well. The rapid gains in water weight with Phera-Plex, make it attractive to those looking to put on instant size and weight. Unfortunately, a large portion of this weight will be lost when use is discontinued and water balance returns to normal. Phera-Plex is methylated to increase oral absorption, and as a result of this it is fairly liver toxic. Other possible side effects include bad lipid profiles, gynecomastia (another estrogenic side effect), and painful cramping and pumps, especially in the lower back and calves.

Apart from being a mass builder, Phera-Plex has some additional benefits

It has an anti-depressive effect, increasing feelings of well-being while on cycle. It also may have SARM (selective androgen receptor modulator) like properties, increasing the sensitivity of the androgen receptor.

Because of its liver toxicity, Phera-Plex should be used in short cycles of 4-6 weeks. Dosing is in the range of 10-40 mg/day in divided doses. Typical dose when Phera-Plex is used alone rather than stacked with other anabolics is 30 mg/day.

At this point, Phera-Plex has been discontinued. Phera-Plex was a gray area supplement, meaning that it was not really within the law, but was able to be sold because it was not specifically listed as a banned substance.
